Newborn Care Visit

Having a brand-new baby brings a lot of joy and excitement to the whole family.  With this, it is important to take steps to care for the health and safety of your baby.  It is important to establish routine health care for your baby.

At Alpharetta Roswell Family Practice, our goal is to aid you in your journey as a new parent.  Ensuring your newborn is healthy and growing well is of utmost importance.   

 

When should I schedule my baby’s first doctor appointment? 

Parents with new babies are encouraged to schedule their child’s first wellness visit as soon as possible after birth.

 

What to expect at first newborn doctor visit?

During your first newborn care visit, which often takes place within the first week of life,  we will assess the baby’s overall health and wellness.  Take a series of measurements, document them for future reference to analyze growth.  

We will also discuss a variety of topics, including how to care for a newborn, warning signs to watch for, and more. Some things you can expect during your new born baby’s first trip to the doctor include: 
  
• Measure weight, length, and head circumference 
• Record vital signs 
• Screen for common newborn illnesses, including jaundice, cradle cap, and feeding problems 
• Examine breathing 
• Assess overall health and wellness 
• feeding, bowel movements, and other newborn routines
